RACHEL XU, CELLO SOLOIST
An active professional cellist and teacher in the San Francisco Bay area, Rachel Xu was born into a musical family in China’s Hunan Province, where she played in the Hunan Province Symphony of Music for 18 years. In 2000, Rachel began teaching at the Music Department of Hunan Vocational College of Fine Art, where she was Professor of Cello and Conductor of the school orchestra. She received her Master’s degree from Western Michigan University School of Music in 2007. After coming to California, Rachel continued her careers as a symphony musician, teacher, and conductor of the South Bay Chinese Orchestra in Fremont.

REQUIEM CONDUCTOR, LARRY KROMM
Maestro Kromm is Professor of Voice and Co-Chair of the Voice Department at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is also Musical Director for 3 major choral groups:  San Jose Symphonic Choir since 1985, Monterey Symphony Chorus, and Director of Music Ministries with choir directing at Saratoga’s St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.  With a Master of Music degree in vocal performance, he has achieved widespread recognition as a versatile conductor, vocal soloist, pianist, and teacher, who performs a wide range of repertoire.  His musical accomplishments include four CD recordings, performances at many notable music festivals, and leading concert tours abroad to many countries.

SAN JOSE SYMPHONIC CHOIR
This premier volunteer choral society in California has been presenting choral masterworks and contemporary pieces since 1924.  Maestro Leroy Kromm has been their inspiring conductor since 1985.  This 110-voice Choir commissions and performs works by local composers that bring attention to community concerns.  Many traditional choral masterworks are also included in performances by this highly acclaimed choir.

VIVACE YOUTH CHORUS of SAN JOSE
Founded in 2003, this Youth Chorus is for boys and girls aged 4 to 18. The group has a commitment to choral excellence, with a well-rounded program balancing vocal training, music theory, and performances for choral education. Ms. Peggy Spool is Artistic Director and Conductor for this group. She has a Master of Music degree in Voice from San Francisco Conservatory of Music, a Certificate in Kodály Music Education, and has worked with children’s choruses in the Bay Area for 16 years.

REQUIEM SOLOISTS
Euigun Lee, Baritone Soloist, is a graduate of the Catholic University of Music in Korea.  Currently, he studies with Keroy Kromm and Tim Bach at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and sings with the San Francisco Master Chorus and the Sacramento Chorus.  The Vivace Youth Chorus sings the Soprano Solo part for 2 of the Requiem sections.

SARATOGA SYMPHONY MEMBERS
The group is composed of 45 dedicated local performers, who have a variety of professional backgrounds.  They participate in the orchestra for the love of music and educational benefits for the community.  The orchestra members especially appreciate the musical experiences with their conductor, Dr. Jason Klein.

SARATOGA SYMPHONY MUSIC DIRECTOR
Stanford graduate Dr. Jason Klein is an active and innovative music director, conductor, and teacher.  Currently, he teaches music at Mt. Diablo Unified School District and is conductor for various orchestras and music festivals.  He is known for his imaginative concert programs with unusual choices of pieces.  His entertaining introductions to the concert music add both historical and human dimensions to his concerts that delight both novice and experienced audience members.
